Brief Guide
Shenyang, the capital and largest city of Liaoning Province, impresses visitors with its dramatic transformation and resilient modernization. As the former site of the Imperial City Wall, Shenyang witnessed the rise of the Manchu Qing Dynasty. Over the past four centuries, the city has preserved a royal palace, two imperial tombs, and numerous royal architectural remnants. The colonnades of the Shenyang Palace Museum echo Beijing's Forbidden City, still whispering the secret history of the court. Every brick in Marshal Zhang's Mansion tells the story of the Warlord Era. The 9.18 Historical Museum recounts the pain of that humiliation (also known as the Manchurian Invasion). Once called Shengjing, the city now feels thoroughly modern. It is a major industrial center and transportation hub for Northeast Asia. The bustling neon lights of Zhongjie Street, the towering television towers, and the lively Liu Laogen Grand Stage all attest to Shenyang's ever-changing character.
