Overview

Dali City, ancient capital of Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms, home to Bai people. Features Dali Old Town and Three Pagodas of Chongsheng Temple.

Brief Guide

Dali City, located in western Yunnan Province, China, was the capital of the ancient Nanzhao Kingdom and Dali Kingdom. It is home to a concentration of minority peoples, mainly the Bai. At the heart of this scenic area is Dali Old Town, north of which stand the Three Pagodas of the Chongsheng Temple, a legacy of the Nanzhao and Dali Kingdoms. On the periphery of simple and elegant Dali are the majestic Cang Mountain and charming Erhai Lake.

Getting There & Around

Dali Fengyi Airport (DLU) connects to domestic cities. Airport bus to ancient town (30–40 min). Local buses, taxis, bicycles available; bus fare ~3 Yuan.

Limited seasonal international routes may operate. To reach the city center, airport buses run to Dali Ancient Town and Xiaguan (30–40 minutes). Taxis take 25–40 minutes depending on traffic. Ride-hailing apps like Didi are widely available and often slightly cheaper
  • By Train: Dali Railway Station in Xiaguan is the primary rail hub, with high-speed trains to Kunming (2–2.5 hours), Lijiang (1–1.5 hours), Shangri-La (via Lijiang, ~3–4 hours total), and other cities. Conventional trains are slower
